Last fall, Annie and I were so excited when our friends from Oscar Isberian Rugs asked us to design a custom hand-woven carpet for their charity auction, CARPETS FOR A CAUSE, happening next Wednesday (10/25) @ 5:30 - 8:30 pm. This event showcases and celebrates one-of-a-kind rugs designed by Chicago's top interior designers and architects, with all proceeds benefitting the transformational work of Designs for Dignity.

BEHIND THE DESIGN
When I first started brainstorming ideas for our rug design, I began by pulling inspiration from my recent travels. Specifically, I came across photos from our family trip to Portugal, where we spent a day exploring the stunning Peña Palace. Though the castle is mostly known for its vast and colorful architecture, it was the intricate Portuguese tile work that captivated me and inspired our rug design!
A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT
Once we found our rug's pattern inspiration from the Peña Palace, the next step was to finalize our custom color values. While still giving a nod to fall fashion trends and a few of our favorite fabrics, we ultimately chose a color palette that was greatly influenced by Annie's travels in Morocco. While there, she found such beauty and inspiration in the bright and colorful hues of the Moroccan architecture and culture.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT
"FIT FOR A QUEEN"
Designing our own custom, hand-woven rug equipped with a unique pattern and color palette compelled us to consider all aspects that would make this rug the most stunning piece it could possibly be. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent playing with the pattern's scale, analyzing the use of positive and negative space, and finalizing each custom color value. We sincerely feel that the final product is fit for a queen!
